What was your first good beer?

That is the question. As you can see from my background, mine would be Shiner Bock. Now after all this time drinking the good beers I find around here I am wondering, will Shiner still be good?

The Redneck went and done it.

Bought my first kit today. Having all the parts out and looking at them kinda remind me of being a kid and having my tinker toys spread all around me. The setup came with one ingredient kit so I picked out the stout. Let's see where this adventure takes me .

Hi Randy,

Good luck with the first test. Btw, are you going to the Nassau coliseum beer fest?

Husker Du! I saw them at the old Ritz in NYC in '87, which was a lot of fun. I think it was Zen Arcade and New Day Rising that kept me driving fast in '85-'87. Very cool to see them here.

I hadn't thought about Shiner Bock for a while. This was one of the first non mainstream beers I tried and liked. I've revisited it over the years and it's not like I remembered. I'm not sure if my beer tastes have changed or the beer itself has changed. Probably both. It's still tastes good, just different.

Fifteen years ago I used to drive from Baton Rouge over to Beaumont, Texas to buy cases of Shiner Bock. When Gambrinus took over the beer never seemed to be the same. Could be my tastes drifted, but my impression is that getting bigger wasn't kind to this beer.

Rich and I made it out to Dave's today too. I picked up a growler of the Brune Friday night. Excellent beer. Cheers!
