next firkin friday at deks on the 3rd

I’ll probably drop in at the next Firkin Friday at DEKS (Rocky Point, NY) which is coming up on the 3rd of July. Dean told me what the firkin is, but I forgot what he said… no, wait a minute, I just remembered— it Sly Fox’s pale ale. Should be a good one [...]

update: the lark in east northport

Last night, LIBME had a social at The Lark in East Northport. Because the weather was so nice, I decided to go kayaking instead, but I did manage to put up a page for The Lark in my beer guide. If you are a “follower” of this site, then you’ll be able to [...]

back to earth

It’s not like very many people have noticed that I haven’t been posting to this blog lately, but a few have and it’s for them that I should probably offer some words of explanation. So here are a few of my thoughts that I have had over the past month about how my time [...]

rocket man

My telephone rang this morning. It was Bellport Dave wanting to know if I had been kidnapped by Martians. “Yes! Although, technically they are not Martians and I did climb into the star cruiser willingly,” I said. “I’ve used my sonic screwdriver to patch my cell phone into the galactic communications [...]

drinking with the seasons

I’ve been working on my beer novel A Year in Beer and I thought it might be informative to start working in material about how to eat and drink with the seasons. I’ve added a new essay to Drinking Well this morning on pairing asparagus with Belgian Tripel. This is probably the first [...]

For people who love real ale (cask conditioned ale) and want more of it on Long Island and who are willing to do something to get more real ale in their local pubs.

As a unified association of beer drinkers our potential to affect positive social change is enormous. Be kind and giving, love one another, care about one another, and help one another. Use beer as a way to do those things.

new podcast, episode #108 - "brooklyn beer in bellport"

In case you didn't see it on Radio Beer Hall (or the front page of LIBS), there's a new edition of my Long Island-focused beer podcast (#108). Give it a listen. Cheers!

oops, I'm still getting used to the LI town/village distinction--we're in Miller Place so that probably should be Brookhaven Town.
Thanks for the last Firkin Friday. It was a good excuse to visit Dek's for the first time, though we had the 2-year old in tow so we enjoyed some Ridgeway in the dining room.

Canterbury Ales in Oyster Bay is pretty decent. I believe that they have 9 taps(about half of them are seasonals)and they have about 100 different bottles. Definitely worth a trip if you are in the area. It is more of a restaurant than a bar. Bar area only has 10-12 seats/stools

LIBME nights at other places would be good. I would like to encourage other members to help organize (it's not that hard really) outings to their own neighborhood pubs.

Donovan, thanks for the comment. I'm no longer exactly ROW, but I'm staying in Tarrytown in Westchester County until I find a place on the Island. I've had to rule out Massapequa because it does not have a full day kindergarten. We're looking in Hewlett, Woodmere, Valley Stream, Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Oceanside and a few other places right now. I will definitely be at some of the events when I get there. I'm hoping to make the South Shore Real Beer Fest for sure. And I will make it to Deks too, though, like some others have mentioned, I hope we can have some LIBME nights in other places too.
