The Sushi Pigs

Two of the best food combinations with beer are the divinely sliced fresh fish styles known as Sushi and Sashimi. The Sushi pigs just cannot get enough....and they take notes of the best places on LI and in NYC.

After I came back from one of my favorite sushi places last week, Yamaguchi of Port Washington, NY, it came to me that it might be interesting to shift The Sushi Pigs to its own platform external to the LIBME. Why? I believe there is a greater crowd appreciation for the food art than we see here and that we could function like a poster board open to all, except spammers. I am inclined to at least experiment with the idea. With inclusion of Manhattan to the geographical content of what's good in sushi, it could take years to tally all the great places to go.

I also thought that by forming a rating of places index with a map, we could get factions together from all over. In rating places, it would make positive sense to rate places based on a 3 tier system, but never mention a bad place so as slander a place that might have a rare off night. Awards would be subjective with gold, silver, and honorable mention. Okay, maybe a rope noose would be appropriate for Sushi Park (find my story on Donavan's site "Sushi Park Suicide" for further details).

Less expensive, but better? We could do that. I have been thinking about staging another meet up. I will drive by to see what we can work out.
Thanks for the tip!

Hey Rich, just FYI I live in Commack and used to hang out at "Kurofune" all the time. One of the head Sushi chefs there left and opened his own place on the corner of Harned Rd. and 347 called "Sushi Takumi". I find the Sushi just as good if not better, he has more original rolls, and is a great guy. Also it is less expensive. If anyone ever plans some type of meet up this would be a great place.

I found another good sushi bar last week in Commack, NY named Kurofune on Commack Road. Very reasonable with a solid sake selection. I told them I was a "Sushi Pig"....they looked at me with a "WTF?" look, but clearly knew my intent when I commanded them to create another culinary masterpiece for me.

On a lighter note, Sushi Park in commack is still alive, barely, and I walked in to take a look. They seemed to have established a REAL sushi bar behind a fence near the bar, but it appeared to be off limits to the general public.

Okay, we have not been active here, so it's time to stage a get together. Would Takara be alright again? It was easy last time.

IT turns out there was a meeting of the Sushi Pigs at the last brewing clinic last week and I was unable to attend. It sounded like way more fun than I had.

I was thinking about us meeting again, but also establishing a system of noting interesting places on the island to find a good sushi. With a pdf file containing a map of LI, we could could indicate where and what it is. This came to me while I was trying to explain to my sushi chef at Stop & Shop that I was with the Sushi Pigs...she only laughed....How about Thursday June 18th at place of everyone's choosing?

It's been a strange and tough Winter, so let's toast to it's demise with a little warm cup of sake at new sushi bar together. I have been getting by on supermarket sushi platters and it's about time we re-convened on a great place that would also appreciate the "economic love". The last time we met at Takara East and I think Kotobuki or a novel selection would be in order. One local restaurant owner in Bellport (Paul at Meritage) who heard about us invited us down and said he would work with us on creating a tap selection just for our arrival!

Albino Python with Sushi? Okay, we will bring some for the next outing. As for Kotobuki being too crowded, I hope they have some down time for the rest of us to try it out. Let us take a look at a calendar and a place. Why not Kotobuki? We could bring the crowd!
