OK, some of you that know me are already aware of my beef with how BeerAdvocate seemingly supports the macros in their forums. I firmly believe that this is because BMC is buying ad space.
But could I be wrong? Could it truly be that the Allstroms created BA as a celebration of all beer? Or could it be that, after starting an online movement to celebrate craft beer, their opinions simply changed?
IMO, the macros do NOT need advocacy because:
1) They have multi-million dollar ad campaigns.
2) Oodles and oodles of people know them and already drink them (because of above) and
3) Aren't really worth advocating anyway (but that's just me).
In the August issue, they printed a letter where a woman asked if they felt hypocritical for blasting Moonshot yet selling ads to BMC (I wonder if she got banned from the forum as I did when I asked the same question). In this month's issue (I looked for a "cancel subscription" button but alas, could not find one) sa letter responds to her question by stating that they feel that the "big three" are only subverting themselves by giving money to a mag dedicated (allegedly) to craft beer.
But I believe this is just another part of BMCs subterfuge. Bud is now the American LAGER, Miller is "triple hops brewed" and they all are advertising in BeerAdvocate.
If the Allstroms are really about promoting craft beer, good beer, then how can they justify helping BMC get any sort of credibility by placing them in their mag?
Am I off my rocker on this?
What do you guys think?
